Study Abroad during your studies

Spending a semester abroad is a guaranteed boost for your career and personal development. You will be part of another culture, create an international network and improve your language skills. It's a unique academic challenge during which you will live and study in an international environment. You will experience another way of examination, classes and approach. If your Examination board approves your courses, they will count towards your degree at VU.

The most suitable period for an exchange is the first semester of your third Bachelor year, because most study programmes have no compulsory courses in this period, so you won’t delay your regular study programme. In your second Bachelor year you will visit our information sessions after which you will be able to apply for exchange. You will have enough time to prepare yourself. VU International Office will help you with this. If you are a VU student, you can read more information on VUnet.

VU Amsterdam has exchange agreements with over 250 universities around the world. You could be one of the students spending a semester at one of our partner universities in Europe, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or Latin America. There is always a destination that fits you and every destination is a unique experience. Take a look at the VU Worldmap select your (future) studies and discover your possibilities.

This VU exchange student just returned from Beijing:

It is an amazing experience to live in a different culture for half a year and learn about the food, habits and traditions. The community of international students here is really nice and it is very easy to make a lot of new friends from all over the world. Who else can say that they visited the great wall in the weekend and Shanghai during a short holiday? I would recommend everyone to go on exchange, you will have so many great experiences and make a lot of new friends!”
